Welcome to the Monterey Handcrew website. The Monterey Handcrew is a 20 person crew stationed at the Tusi work center on Fort Hunter Liggett under the hosting unit of the Los Padres National Forest, Monterey Ranger District. Monterey Handcrew is a Type 2 IA crew that travels the nation assisting in the suppression of wildfires. The duties of the Monterey Crewmembers are rigorous and challenging. Los Padres National Forest The Los Padres National Forest encompasses nearly two million acres in the beautiful coastal mountains of central California. The forest stretches across almost 220 miles from the Big Sur Coast in Monterey County to the western edge of Los Angeles County.
Fort Hunter Liggett Fort Hunter Liggett is the largest installation in the Army Reserve and the eighth largest in the Army. With more than 165,000 acres of un-encroached mountains, valleys, rivers, plains, and forests it provides ideal maneuver areas to meet today's CS and CSS training requirements.
